Just can't get enough

I really think I am the luckiest mom in the world to be able to spend all day, every day with these two. Sure, I have my moments where I want to scream and hide from them, but I don't think I have ever smiled and laughed more in my life than I do being in the company of my little wee ones. They are such a crack up.
This is a little more of Makenna with her 'big bug'. She kept on saying how cute it was and was trying to kiss it, so I made her put it in a cup so she wasn't so 'hands on' with it.
I love little boys in hats....even dorky little floppy hats like this one.
He is getting more and more energetic and interactive every day. I love it. His personality just keeps coming out and let me tell you, he is a funny little guy. And so happy!
My wild woman caught on camera having a calm, angelic moment. Maybe she was trying to reverent before we went to church....ha!
95 degrees in April....you've gotta love it.
If you look you can see Kellen's two bottom teeth poking through. I love his little chompers. He looks so cute and like such a big boy with him....though I guess Kellen ALWAYS looks Big.
I know she has been potty trained for quite awhile now, but it still makes me so proud and excited every time she sits on that potty. Ahhh....

Makenna Moments

This is what I discovered upon going in the backyard to see what my darling little girl was up to. I knew I would never raise a 'girly girl'. (Note that she is wearing a tank top, shorts, sandals and Mittens. It was 95 degrees outside, but she insisted upon the mittens....sometimes you just have to go with things.)

Our Ever Growing Boy!

The stats are in for Kellen's 6 month check up. I know he is already 6 1/2 months, but this was the soonest we could get in to the doctors.
Everything checked out great. Kellen is developing just as he should and growing like a weed. He checked in at 22lbs 13oz (off the charts...over the 95%) and 30in tall (once again, over the 95%). Todd is so proud :) He is the average height of a 1 year old. I know, it is crazy. He is a big boy. Just think of how I feel having to lug him around all day. At least I get my weight training in consistently. I have a new found respect for Todd's mother though, that is for sure.
Kellen is sitting up really well and is starting to get on his knees and feet a little bit. He can pull himself in circles with his arms too. I am sure he will be crawling in the very near future. And he is finally eating well. Since we embraced the whole 'finger foods' idea he has done great. He will eat just about any fruit and veggie I give him, as long as he gets them in bite size pieces. And he is actually able to pick up food and get it into his mouth on his own too, which actually caught me by surprise.
We are very grateful to have a healthy son and daughter.

Here are a few videos of how Kellen spends his days.

What can you do?

For as big as Kellen is you would think that the child had the biggest appetite in the world, right? You would think that the kid would eat anything you put in front of his face. But that is far from the case here.
Since Kellen was 4 1/2 months old I have been trying and trying to get the boy to eat solids. They told me at his 4 month apt that due to his "large stature" he would need to being taking in more than just milk. So I tried to start him on rice cereal and purees. Kellen said "Heck NO!" No matter how I tried I could not get the kid to eat. He wouldn't open his mouth for the food at all. He would literally lock his jaw and grunt, yes, Grunt at me if I tried to feed him. And IF I could successfully trick him into opening his mouth and got the spoon in, the food came right back out.
I decided to give it a rest. I waited a few weeks and tried again. Same thing happened. Waited a couple more weeks. Same response. So finally I thought, "Maybe he just doesn't like the purees." So a little over a week ago we went and got some stage 2 foods and tired those. And for a few days he did pretty good! But for the past 4 days or so he has started reverting back to old habits. He is not opening up as much. He is getting Mad and upset when I try to feed him and today when I did get the spoon in his mouth he started to cry. It was so sad.
But he was acting hungry and I had already nursed him. So I decided to try something even more solid. I gave him small pieces of a really steamed carrot. And he did really well. He opened for the food and ate almost a whole baby carrot. Then tonight I was eating a banana and he was watching intently, so I gave him small pieces of that. He inhaled it! He loved it!
So maybe my kid just doesn't like baby food. But is that okay? For some reason it worries me. It doesn't seem right to go straight to finger foods and bite size foods. I feel like he will be missing some nutrition. What do you other parents out there think? Do I just go with what he will eat, or do I keep trying the baby food hoping he will come around to it with enough time?
Anyway, here are a few recent pics. Other than our eating drama life is great!

A rare picture of Kellen actually eating baby food. You would think he loved it based on this picture.Kenna sporting her apron from her Auntie Steph. She loves wearing it and now looks for every opportunity to help me in the kitchen and put it on.Kellen and his buddy Cam. Doesn't Kellen look like such a big boy here. He is so grown up. Oh, and Cam is almost two years old....yes, Kellen is HUGE! (And I love every ounce of him!)This was my baby doll (named 'hard babies head'...I know, it was a weird name) when I was a little one. I LOVED this dolly. My heart melted when makenna came out of her room playing with her. A very proud mommy moment for me.My Clap Happy little boy. He has learned to clap. It is the cutest thing. And he claps very proper...he keeps his right hand stationary and claps with the left. It is too cute!Makenna is addicted to wearing these silly mittens. She wanted to go to bed with them on and slept in them all night. She is strange, I know...Trying to be like Auntie Rah Rah and walk with crutches. I know her hair is a disaster....

Easter Cuteness

I am a lame mom and my camera battery was dead when I went to turn it on to take pics of Makenna finding her basket and eggs on Easter morning. But what can you do. I was able to get some pictures of us all in our Easter best though. Must capture that if nothing else. We had a fun and relaxing Easter this year. Makenna enjoyed finding her Easter goodies. Kellen loved playing with and shaking the eggs. He tried his hardest to fit an entire egg in his mouth, but even though he is a big boy he is not That big. We had a relaxing, fun afternoon and then went over to Grammy and Pa's house for our Easter dinner. I was a really nice family day. And of course a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our saviors sacrifice and resurrection and how blessed we are to have a way to return to our father in heaven.Makenna was tired and Kellen was sad and hungry. But hey, they are sitting next to each other and dressed cute. That counts for something.Daddy and his little onesMama and her babesI love being surrounded by such handsomeness! My little mama's boy. I've gotta take it while I can! (These were taken after church when Makenna was not feeling in the mood to take pictures with us. There is no forcing a two year old to sit and smile if she doesn't want to)She was however fine with taking a few on her own. (okay, maybe mom was bribing her with Easter candy, but hey, you do what you gotta do....she took the picture, right?)She seriously melts my heart....I am a very lucky woman.See....he truly wanted that whole egg in his mouth!Happy Easter!

Awww...

Nothing makes me smile more than seeing my children make each other laugh.

(I hope it doesn't look like Kenna is beating Kellen. She was being gentle, doing it out of love and he was LOVING it!)

p.s. Don't forget to pause the music at the bottom of the page so you can hear the chuckles.

Pobrecito!

Seriously, has it really been 6 months since Kellen was born?!! I can't believe how fast the time goes by. I know moms are always saying that....but Seriously?!! Wow!
To celebrate turning 6 months old, Kellen cut his first tooth. Early last week his bottom left tooth came in. I knew it was going to be coming soon cause he was a leaky faucet for a couple of days. But he never got all that cranky or anything. And then BAM, suddenly there was a tooth.
Now the other bottom tooth has decided it should cut through too. And this one has not been quite so easy. My poor baby boy has been Sooooo sad today. Usually having a cranky baby tires me out and makes me feel cranky myself. But all day I have just felt so bad for Kellen. The tooth is just right there under the gum. You can see it lurking right beneath the surface. It just won't cut through. And he has been so sad and uncomfortable all day. The saddest part is that you can tell he is trying to be in good spirits and be tough. I really hope it is in by tomorrow. It just breaks my heart to see him sad and hurting.
The funny thing about Kellen is that he doesn't really cry. Well, I mean yes, he does cry sometimes. But most of the time when he is sad or upset he screams! And I mean Screams! He is a loud kid when he wants to be heard! It is not even a screaming cry. It is just yelling, which of course gets Makenna yelling too. Needless to say, the house has been quite loud today. I am ready for that to be over.
So here you go...this is what I have been hanging out with most of the day.
It was cute because every time I would go to take a picture Kellen would stop crying (well, yelling) and would put on a cute happy face. He already knows to smile for the camera.

And here are just a few other pics of the happenings around the McKamey household.

Kenna found her Minnie ears from Halloween and has been wearing them for the last few days.Grammy and Kellen boy hanging out at Red Robin. We had a little get away day on Saturday where we took the kids up to see Sarah. It was so much fun and nice to escape all the weekend duties and chores. We just love our Auntie Rah Rah! (And baby Brooke...Kenna couldn't keep her hands of Sarah's belly. She also believes that she has a baby Brooke in her belly...although her Brooke is usually a boy.)Makenna was carrying the basketball all around the house tonight after her bath with this look on her face. It is not very attractive, but it was funny. Where does she get these ideas?
